This course is an introduction to playing Shakespeare. We will explore Shakespeare’s language clues that bring the text to life, and allow the actor to communicate a character’s thoughts, wants, physical and emotional states to an audience.
Objectives:
- through play reading, exercises, monologue and scene study the students will:
- demonstrate that they have an understanding of verse and prose
- develop listening skills
- develop movement skills to connect mind and body through speech
- use the text to define character
- use the text to define emotional state of character
- use the text to define objectives
- use the text to define situation
- choose, examine, explore and learn one monologue for presentation
- examine, explore and present one assigned scene study
EVALUATION:
Participation: 60%
Monologue: 20%
Duologue: 20%
